Our Vision for Music at FCC
The primary purpose of the Music Ministry at FCC is to inspire all who hear to praise our God and to grow in a deeper understanding of our faith.
The Choir
The FCC Choir sings most Sundays from September through June. Anyone interested in singing is welcome to join us as we prepare choral music selected from the great traditions of the Church. Rehearsals take place on Thursdays at 7:30 PM except in July and August. During the summer months, soloists (both vocal and instrumental) offer special music at our Sunday morning worship services.
Other Musical Opportunities
Periodically, throughout the church year, the music used in worship is enhanced by Brass instruments, Children’s Choir, Junior Choir, and Hand Chimes.
About the Organ
Lemieux & Associates Pipe Organ Company, Ltd. recently completed the renovation of our 1887 S. S. Hamill organ. The instrument’s builder, Samuel S. Hamill, born around 1830, was apprenticed to several prominent organ builders before opening his own business in Cambridge around 1861. He maintained this business for about thirty years, during which time he built at least 45 organs, most of which were located in the northeast United States. Our organ, built toward the end of Mr. Hamill’s career, has received very little alteration over the years. This makes it of extra interest, historically speaking.
On Sunday, March 8, 2009, the congregation was thrilled to hear the organ used once again, as it has been for the past hundred years and more.
Come, ye faithful, raise the strain of triumphant gladness!
